Dos and Don’ts when it Comes to Water Damage

10/15/2020 (Permalink)

A room with several water drying fans We have the equipment and expertise to help restore your home after water damage.

Garland has seen its share of pipes burst, roofs leak and houses flood, so SERVPRO of North Garland knows exactly what to do if, and when, it happens to you. Our team of professionals has the right tools and equipment to safely dry out your home or business and the contents within it.

There are also things YOU can do before our team gets there to save you time and money – here are some things to keep in mind:

DO

  • If pipes have burst, make sure to turn off the water source to prevent more flooding.
  • Remove as much excess water as possible, sopping it up with towels or mopping to minimize damage to furniture.
  • Safely turn off electricity and if you can’t – wait outside until you know it is safe.
  • Make sure the damage is not sewer related. This requires different protocols for cleanup.

 DON'T

  • Enter, or stay in a room with standing water since there could be a risk of electrical shock.
  • Leave rugs and furniture upholstery wet against one another because the fabrics have the potential to bleed between each other.
  • Use your vacuum to try and remove water.
  • Walk through moving water - even six inches of moving water can cause a fall.

These dos and don’ts will minimize potential damage and you’ll be ready when our team arrives. Water damage should be professionally assessed and remedied to avoid further damage from mold.

Our Team at SERVPRO of North Garland is ready to assist at a moment's notice with any of your water emergencies. Give our team a call at 972-496-2441.
